In the school year of 2024-2025, my volunteering journey was something I could look forward to every day. What motivated me to volunteer during these years is that I greatly enjoyed serving the community, being one of my favourite things to do during my free time. It allowed me to meet new people, learn their stories, and support them to the best of my ability. It gave me a new perspective of those in need, and how learning to understand them is something that I need in life. Volunteering also helped me learn new skills that could benefit me in the future. This experience improved things like communication skills, the ability to work as a group, and confidence in general. It also brought me closer to God by serving our community and helping those in need. Activities like packing lunches for Downtown Eastside, helping set up for events like at JKCS or Journey Home Community, and taking care of children during events like the JKCS Elementary School Parent workshop are some of the ways I connected to God. One of my favourite places to volunteer is in the Foods Lab. This place taught me how to cook and bake, and was enjoyable in the process. It also helped boost myself into asking for help more frequently instead of trying to figure it out myself. The best part about it is volunteering with a friend or two. It allows you to work in a group you’re comfortable with and solve problems together. I hope everyone can experience the joy of volunteering, and that this year will be just as fun as the previous year.

John Knox Christian School has brought me countless, wonderful opportunities to participate in volunteer programs that not only benefit our school’s atmosphere and community, but to serve our mighty, loving God. I was able to volunteer in graphic design, constructing the yearbook with an amazing team that has inspired me to take on the yearbook club, continuing to offer my guidance and express my eagerness to serve the school. I have never stopped enjoying my involvement in the school through volunteering, whether it’s cooking in the Foods Lab, or designing yearbook pages. Even my out of school experiences, including helping church camps, or organizing youth events has made volunteering an exciting part of the year. Volunteering has encouraged me to take on leadership roles, expand my development, and bring myself to become a more responsible, communicative version of myself. I’m grateful for every aspect of serving, especially when it brings out smiles and laughter. Taking into account the many hours I have served, I would be pleased to share a Bible verse that has circled my mind during my acts of service. 1 Peter 4:10 writes, “each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” As individuals with gifts given to us by God, I have chosen to use my own godly given gift to volunteer, believing that is a decision I will always make. From the multitude of lessons I’ve grasped, the unforgettable memories sparked with friends, and to the growth I’ve made with Jesus, learning to serve as a steward of God is truly an eye opening chance for me. As I work my way up the academic scales, I hope to put myself through more volunteering, uncovering more of the world, strengthening bonds, and doing it for God.
