JKCS, Secondary Campus, strives to foster a community that encourages youth engagement in local, provincial, federal and global issues. To further student involvement and understanding in the democratic process, Mrs. DeWith hosted a mock civic election through “Student Vote” on Oct 18 in which students had the opportunity to cast a ballot to select a mayor, councillors and school trustees.
To follow up with the conversation on elections, democracy and politics, our local MP Peter Julian came to talk with our students on Oct 26. After a brief review of the democratic process and how our parliamentary system is organized, Mr. Julian shared his passions as an MP and described his role within the community. He strongly encouraged our students to get involved in their community and emphasized that no one is ever too young to make a difference.
