On Saturday, October 2, 2021 we were blessed with the opportunity to serve the Journey Home Community and “Ride For Refuge,” event. With about 15 other students from our school, we helped set up, serve food, tear down, clean up, valet bikes, and greet people joining in on their community celebration to raise funds for Journey Home Community’s work to welcome refugee families seeking asylum from persecution and danger. Despite the predicted rain forecast, the weather remained well enough to continue the event outdoors. Going into it, we were expecting a decent amount of people to come, but were surprised to see so many cheerful and generous people, all eager to help others. We heard stories from refugees, who struggled to find aid after leaving their previous lives behind; and we can wholeheartedly say that it was really moving to see all the help they received after Journey Home Community reached out to them. As our first volunteering experience in a couple of years, it was great to have a chance to look at the heart-warming and inspiring ministry of Journey Home Community.
