Period Poverty Fundraiser (Secondary Campus)

Tim Chan Times News

Over the past few months, the JKCS Wings Club have been organizing a period poverty fundraiser, inspired by our Social Justice Module. During the course, we were encouraged to explore the injustices within society which prompted us to seek a meaningful organization to work with. We came across Pads4Girls, an organization that provides women in Africa with reusable menstrual products and hygiene education.

The impact period poverty has on girls shocked us and it spurred us to take action. We found that girls who suffer from period poverty can miss out on up to 20% of their education simply because they were not allowed to be in school while having their period. This resulted in dropouts, early marriage and pregnancies, and fewer job opportunities. We decided to make a video to help educate and raise awareness for period poverty, then we began to plan a fundraiser raffle. Over the last two months, we were able to raise over $700 to help support this organization. We are thankful for everyone who helped us along the way, and we hope that our little gesture will inspire others to take a step to address the injustice within society.
