Knox Walk 2022: Journey Home

Fera Gunawan Times News

This year we are blessed to give 10% of our Knox Walk fundraising efforts to Journey Home. Journey Home provides a range of support for families immediately on their entry to Metro Vancouver as refugees. Housing is offered through “Welcome Houses”. These houses are a safe place for families to recover from the shock of leaving their countries, often having experienced significant trauma. Welcome Houses include a volunteer live-in host couple to offer support alongside a settlement team. Additional support is available such as assistance with work permits, connection to a faith community, and help as they navigate legal and health systems.
Many students in our school are already very familiar with Journey Home. This year alone students have supported Journey Home in the following way:
– Ride for Refuge bikeathon: Students worked as bike valets as well as prepared and served food to participants
– Journey Home Christmas Party: This event was held at the secondary campus. Students volunteered in a variety of ways including serving food and providing entertainment
– SoupSACS: Foods classes regularly prepare and freeze delicious soups for local Welcome Houses.
