Last week the Socials 11 students walked up to New Westminster’s City Hall to talk to its four Urban Planners. Urbanization, the study of cities and their inhabitants, proved to be an interesting topic in our curriculum and we wanted to learn more about how our city plans for the present and the future while still trying to honour the past. The four urban planners for New West were gracious, informative, and accommodating, even allowing us to sit in the council chambers as they presented the details of their job to us and fielded our questions. Living in any city has its unique challenges but learning how much detail goes on behind the scenes has left us with just another reason to be grateful this holiday season.
