As the Academic Counsellor, it is my pleasure to work alongside you and your child to prepare for the transition from high school into post-secondary institutions. As part of the process, I will be co-teaching a few of the sessions with Mrs. Lau in the Career Planning Christian Studies Module.
- Thursday, Sept. 20: Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants
- Monday, Sept. 24: Application Process for Post-Secondary Institutions
- Thursday, Oct. 11: UBC visit (at JKCS) for grade 11 & 12 students
One of our high school “neighbours”, St. Thomas More Collegiate High School has graciously invited our grade 12 students to attend their University Fair on Monday, November 20 (6:45-8:30). This is an information night for parents and students to attend together. If you are planning to attend, please sign up by emailing me at ydewith@johnknoxbc.org before October 1 (to give STMC a number of guests to expect).
I have posted many resources under Academic Counselling on the new JKCS Learning Commons Website. Information, such as important dates for university fairs, will be posted on the website and will be conveyed directly to students.
Applying for universities/colleges and applying for scholarships can be a daunting task. It does take time and a considerable amount of research. Although we, as a school, can do our best to pass along as much relevant information as possible, it is ultimately up to the individual student to research and complete applications. To help you and your child get started, a Check List was posted on your child’s Google Classroom and on the JKCS Learning Commons website. We will be working through some of these items in the next few weeks in the Career Planning 12 Module.
This is an exciting time and we are delighted to share this journey with you and your child.
Mrs. Yvonne DeWith Teacher-Librarian & Academic Counsellor, M.A., B.Ed.
