Music Teacher, all Grades K-7: Mrs. Shrimer
Music is a gift from God, and all music classes are approached with this understanding. Students are taught to honour and praise God with the gift of music.
Kindergarten Music is done in the classroom.
Grades 1-4 progressively learn such things as percussion instruments, basics of harmony and rhythm, beginning note-reading, musical terms, etc.
Grade 5 students learn to play the recorder (and they even write their own operas!)
Grade 6 and 7 students learn band instruments and play in band
All students participate in choir. Singing is an important element of the music program at John Knox, including learning how to sight-sing in the upper grades.
Students have various opportunities to perform for their parents, grandparents, and community throughout the year.
Please see the Student Handbook for further details.
